John Ellis is an Anglo-Californian architect, urban designer and teacher. He grew up in London, studied at Cambridge, and has lived and worked in the Bay Area since 1977. His work covers a range of scales and building types, with a special emphasis on social housing and urban design.
He has worked with a number of distinguished firms and since 1996 has been in partnership with Daniel Solomon.
John has taught at CCA in San Francisco, UC Berkeley, and was the inaugural Marshall Visiting Professor of Sustainable Urban Design at Cambridge University.
He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and of the Congress for the New Urbanism.
