Urban Design
The projects shown here were done in a number of capacities including those in my role as Director of Urban Design with Daniel Solomon as well as in competitions with friends and colleagues.
Daniel Solomon and I have collaborated for over 25 years on large scale urban designs for cities and neighborhoods up and down the West Coast from Seattle to Los Angeles. These include HOPE VI social housing projects such as Othello Station / Holly Park in Seattle; Hunters View and The Shipyard in San Francisco; and Jordan Downs in Watts, Los Angeles.
While we were partners with WRT I was fortunate to work alongside Jim Stickley on a number of urban design projects including several for the city of Sacramento.
Other projects include the Market/Octavia Plan for San Francisco after the demolition of the Central Freeway following the 1989 Earthquake; the Vision Plan for Coyote Valley, San Jose for the Greenbelt Alliance; and transit-oriented developments for cities including Hayward and North Richmond, California.
Dan and I co-authored the award winning master plan for a demonstration project for social housing and compact urbanism for Bin Hai, Tianjin.
Campus plans include those for UC Berkeley, UCLA and our entry for the UCSF Mission Bay campus master plan done with Michael Dennis whose campus planning and urbanism continues to inspire.
Various competition entries are shown including the I-280 Freeway Removal project with Mohammad Momin.
