Hudson River Waterfront competition, New York NY

Designed as John G Ellis, 1988

An ideas competition to explore how to restore the Hudson River waterfront after the demolition of the elevated Westside Highway. The design proposed extending the various adjacent street grid alignments across the path of the former highway to create a series of new waterfront districts. The alignments of 10th, 11th and 12th Avenues would extend through the new street grids offering direct line of sight towards Liberty Island. A new Light Rail transit line is proposed to serve the new neighborhoods running from Grand Central Station, along 42nd Street and extending down the Westside Highway towards Battery Park City.
