Downtown Detroit

Downtown Detroit is a case study in the study of urban decline and rebirth. Once one of the most impressive downtowns with a fine collection of 1920 era highrises, the city went through decades of population loss and urban decay until recently when it has experienced a spectacular rebirth. Many of the older highrises with their small floorplates have been converted into residential towers bringing a new population that needs bars, clubs and restaurants and has enlivened the downtown streets. In addition Ford have repurposed the former Michigan Central Railroad Terminal into the headquarters of their electric car division bringing a new economic engine to the area.
