UC Berkeley, Advanced Urban Design studio, Spring 2020: Transit-oriented design sites

A studio with a combination of graduate students from Architecture, Planning, Landscape and Real Estate Development and Design focused on transit-oriented development on four sites around the Bay.

  1. San Rafael SMART Station and Golden Gate Transit bus transit center.

  2. Larkspur Ferry Terminal and SMART station

  3. El Cerrito del Norte BART station and bus transit center.

  4. West Oakland BART station.

The students worked in teams to produce urban designs and consider economic strategies for mixed-use development. Phasing strategies and economic proformas were produced.

The studio occurred during the 2020 COVID lockdown and was achieved through both inplace teaching until March 16 and remote learning and video conferencing for the remaining 8 weeks.
