The Old Oak Common studio was an opportunity to take the 12 graduate students over to London to participate with Cambridge University students on the master planning for a major development plan. Old Oak Common will have a major transit hub for both HS2 from London to Brirmingham, and Crossrail and the Great Western Railway main line. A brownfield site it is the location for an ambitious plan for housing and employment. Jonathan Rose of AECOM London provided the programme for the site and generously orchestrated a review with a distinguished group of jurors at the end of the London visit.
The students worked in teams to balance their skills as planners, architects, landscape and urban designers. They coordinated with the Cambridge students over the week-long visit to London during the Spring Break.

2017 Studio Team 2 proposed an audacious land swap by building on a portion of the Wormwood Scrubs open space in exchange for a similar area at the heart of the site as a new amenity for the development.

2017 Studio Team 4 proposed a high density option with a mixed-use cluster around the transit hub.

The 2018 MUD studio followed the previous year and developed plans that explored phasing and building typologies. They visited the site during the week-long Spring Break and worked alongside Cambridge University students to prepare an interim review.
