Stevenson Place, San Francisco CA

Designed as KMD Architects, 1984

John Ellis Project Designer with Jeff Heller, David Hobstetter, Rich Lowry, Tom Monahan, Raymond Cekauskas

Stevenson Place was one of the first buildings to follow the urban design guidelines of San Francisco’s 1984 Downtown Plan. This called for buildings to respond to context, hold the street wall, and have a distinctive top, shaft, and base. The twenty-three-story building is located on a midblock alley and has a presence on Market Street between the two Chevron office towers. Clad in French granite and precast concrete the building has an arcade that leads to a plaza on Jessie Street. The ground floor lobby is enclosed with a curving Pilkington Glass screen.
